Since there’s a STUNNING Aer Lingus Sale on at the moment, we can’t help but plan a wee European city break. Sure look, it’s only over the water, and if it’s cheap enough, there’s really no reason not to book a flight and enjoy the wonders that these European cities have to offer.

And if there is one thing we adore about a city break in Europe, it’s the food. European cities are simply bursting with flavour and dishes for you to tuck into, whether it be authentic Italian pizza, scrumptious German bratwurst or delightful Spanish paella.

There is simply too much to try. That’s exactly why a food crawl should be on your list of things to do when visiting any of these European destinations. Because we all know that the best way to get to know a place and live like a local is through the food.

So here are some fabulous food trails you can do in some of our favourite European cities:

1. Secret Food Tour of Paris

Paris is best known as the city of love, but you could also argue that it is one of the top foodie capitals of the world.

So while you’re there, why not get a food tour from a local expert to ensure you experience the absolute best bits that Paris has to offer.

Your tour guide will make sure you get to try the food that is often overlooked by tourists and will also tell you all about the history and culture of the city, and how it was largely shaped by the food.

2. Food, Wine and Chocolate/Cheese Food Tour, Budapest

What is great about this five-hour tour is that you’ll be part of a small group, so the experience is quite personalised.

Your guide will pick you up in central Budapest and you will travel out to the picturesque Etyek wine region. Once you’re there, you will have the option to take part in either a cheese or a chocolate workshop.

After that, enjoy a delicious two-course lunch and sample a variety of wine from the region. Then, the driver will even drop you back to your hotel in central Budapest.

3. Local Historical Food Tour, Bilbao

Discover the history of the unique city and region as well as the amazingly tasty food it has to offer on this tour by a local expert.

Your guide will bring you to their favourite spots in Bilboa and tell you all about the history of this city in the Basque region of Spain, and tell you why the area differs from the rest of Spain.

What is special about this tour? Well, the route is never the same, and your guide will be sure to take you to the bars and restaurants that are not frequented by tourists, to give you a true feel for the local food and culture.

4. Bite Berlin Food Tour

Known for its rich culture and nightlife, Berlin is some spot. But you haven’t properly experienced Berlin unless you’ve tasted it. So you should head on a food tour while you’re there to make sure you experience all the best of what the vibrant city has to offer.

Bite Berlin organise a variety of tours. Their original tour explores the amazing multiculturism of the city by allowing you to try a variety of international cuisines, starting at the old Jewish Quarter and heading up towards the buzzing district of Prenzlauer Berg.

They also offer a Women of Berlin Tour which teaches guests all about the inspiring women who helped shape the city, as well as a Vegan Food Tour.

5. Devour Paris Food Tour

Explore hidden gems and family-run bakeries, cafés and restaurants in the Le Marais neighbourhood of Paris.

On this tour, you’ll visit the oldest covered market in Paris (which dates back to the 1600s), enjoy a classic French dish in an old-school bistro, go to family-run businesses that date back generations, and experience a wine tasting with local experts.

Expect to enjoy authentic French cuisine and learn the rich history behind each dish and every wine you try.

Can’t decide what to eat for breakfast in Budapest? Well, why not try everything?

With tour guide Kata, you’ll first enjoy some coffee and some traditional Hungarian scones in one of the city’s coffee houses. After that, you’ll make your way around various breakfast spots in the city, trying everything from Hungarian salamis and sausages to Hungarian cheese.
