Broke Bish’s Guide To: Belfast

Rebecca Keane

Belfast is an underrated city with plenty of amenities outside the obvious tourist’s choice – the Titanic museum.

As someone who doesn’t enjoy museums in particular and likes to save her pennies, I made it my mission to get the most out of Belfast one weekend – without any boat references or breaking the bank.

A quick 2 hour bus from Dublin left us in a new vibrant city with loads of stuff to eat, drink and do and here’s what this broke bish got up to…

Where to eat:

Harlem

Decorated with portraits of all Hollywood’s biggest icons, Harlem is one of the most ornate places I’ve ever been.

The gorgeous interiors of this place is almost overwhelming and I could definitely see myself getting married here should the occasion ever arise.

In addition, the food is amazing and totally affordable.

The Pocket

An independent café situated beside the Botanical Gardens, their food and coffee are delicious.

Whether it’s breakfast or lunch you’re after, The Pocket was amazing.

The Ginger Bistro

This little gem situated right in the middle of the city was unexpectedly yummy.

As a serial green curry connoisseur, their offering was so delicious I was tempted to lick the plate. It wouldn’t be the first time either….

Where to drink:

Love & Death

Love & Death is a hidden bar, up some stairs, right in the middle of the shopping area.

This chic, gothic cocktail bar was gorgeous and suitable for even a cheap pint too.

Maverick

My favourite visit in all of Belfast, Maverick’s interiors alone are worth seeing for yourself.

This colourful bar also serves cocktail of the month where I sipped a ‘Joan Collins’ and had the time of my life.

What to see:

George’s Market

A must-visit for any foodies, this iconic market has everything from photo frames, jewellery and clothes.

Bus Tour

While many people advise getting the popular black cab tours,  a bus tour proves cheaper and brings to you to all parts of the city.

Botanical Gardens Belfast

The gorgeous botanical gardens are walk-able from the city centre and are beyond beautiful.

With admission being free too, you can’t go wrong!

For some people, travelling to foreign cities and exotic destinations isn’t always in the question – especially when you’re trying to save!

Keep in mind there are plenty of gems in our home country which are perfect for a little break away.
