A Burger Festival Is Coming To Ireland This Month

Kiara Keane

The second annual Burger Fest is coming to Ireland at the end of the month with an entire week of events, tastings and demonstrations.

Kicking off on Monday January 28, Burger Fest will see hundreds of venues around the country taking part in celebrating all things burger-related, and ending with a competition to find Ireland’s best burger – and the best one in every county.

Last year’s winners, Son of a Bun on Cork’s MacCurtain Street, have revealed their entry for this year’s competition and it sounds like it’s gonna be a solid contender for the coveted Golden Burger trophy.

‘The Chipper’ burger will have: one cheese and onion potato pie, two patties topped with cheddar cheese, curry sauce, mushy peas and garlic mayo in a brioche bun.

And what would a Burger Fest be without free burgers? If you drop by The Hatch food truck in Dundrum that Thursday, they’ll be handing out two-for-one burgers all day.

They’ll also be in Kilkeel on the Friday and Newcastle on Saturday if you’re looking to bag yourself a free meal.

Ernest Cantillon, co-founder of FSTVLR and owner of Cork hotspots Electric and Sober Lane said, “As a venue owner myself I know that, rather than drawing in crowds, festivals often take people away from the pubs and restaurants.

“What we want to do is to bring the festival to the venues and drive footfall for them, as well as putting on a great event for the public. Our business model is low cost and low risk, and has proved to be hugely successful.”

You can find all the latest info about the festival and the venues taking part via the FSTVLR website here.
