This Irishman’s Car Insurance Quote For His 2007 Car Is Actually Ridiculously Dear

And they say that young drivers have it hard…

One of the first big paychecks you part with as an adult is for your car insurance. If you’re under the age of 25, it is well known that getting car insurance that’s less than a couple of grand – no matter what car you have – is next to near impossible.

However, this 48-year-old man from Meath was left hitting for the brakes when he opened a letter about his yearly motor insurance renewal.

Publican Brian Kelly was shocked to find that his quote for his insurance was over €19,300.

He was sure that this was a mistake but after ringing up Liberty Insurance, they said that if he wanted to insure his 2007, 1.6 Toyota Avensis with them, that’s the price he would have to pay.

The price of a 07, 1.6 Avensis on Done Deal at time of writing ranges between €2,500 and €3,500.

The company told Brian that the huge premium was because of two outstanding claims against him

He told the The Irish Sun that he needs his car but he can’t afford to pay that sort of insurance.

“You’d buy a new car for that. I’m with Liberty Insurance 17 years and had nine years of a no-claims bonus intact.

“I can’t afford to pay €19,000 but I need my car. “To be quoted €19,000 is ludicrous in itself.

“In 2016, the premium went from €800 to €4,000 after an incident and I paid it but this jump is completely out of the ballpark.”
