Claudine Keane leads tributes as Robbie celebrates milestone birthday

James Fenton

Do you remember when an 18-year-old Robbie Keane burst onto the international scene with two goals against Malta? If so, you are officially old.

All the way back in October 1998, Aerosmith were top of the Irish charts with I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing and Ireland football fans were learning that our fresh-faced new striker didn’t like missing much either.

Robbie Keane, Ireland’s record goalscorer and notorious sound man, celebrates the big 40th today and while any chance of a party has been scrapped, his wife Claudine has led a number of tributes online to Ireland’s former captain, saying he is and ‘incredible person, selfless, determined and humble’ while congratulating him on ‘four decades of amazing adventures.’

Other tributes came from the FAI as well as Robbie’s’ numerous former clubs, teammates and fans…

Many happy returns to Robbie and we’re sure he’ll be spoiled by Claudine, Robert Junior and Hudson this evening. With 68 international goals under his belt, his age still has a long way to catch up.
