Disruption to Cork City traffic as bus crashes and becomes wedged under low bridge

This is the third incident of this kind to occur at the bridge in the last few years.

A busy road on the north side of Cork City is temporarily closed this morning as a Bus Éireann bus has crashed into a railway bridge.

The bridge on Dublin Hill in Blackpool is known by locals as a black spot for traffic incidents.

According to RTÉ News, the bus was heading towards Blackpool when it struck a railway bridge near Dublin Hill at around 9am and tipped over on its side.

It’s believed that there were no passengers on board at the time, and the driver was treated for shock after the crash.

An Garda Síochána and four units from Cork City Fire Brigade attended the scene, and the road is currently closed as they work to safely remove the bus from the scene. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, or the diversions which are in place.

There were also delays to Irish Rail services as engineers worked to assess the damage to the bridge – the 09:25 Cork to Dublin Heuston service departed Cork station 30 minutes behind schedule, but the bridge has since been cleared to be safe for traffic and services should be running as normal.
