The Entire Country Fell In Love With The Two Characters On RTÉ’s ‘Home Rescue’ Last Night

Last night, the entire country fell in love with Austin and Muhammed on RTÉ’s Home Rescue.

The show sees architect Roisin Murphy and builder Peter Finn renovate people’s homes across the country.

Austin and Muhammed’s home was their biggest challenge to date after cowboy builders abandoned the job mid-renovation while still taking €30,000.

The place was left in an absolute state.

Austin met Muhammed, a student from Pakistan, in the shop where Muhammed works.

An unlikely friendship was forged between the pair, which soon led to Austin visiting the shop every day.

Sometimes, Austin would be waiting outside for Muhammed before he opened up.

“He’s all on his own and that really hit me hard. I was thinking of a person living alone at this age when they need the most support from the community. He’d been living about 40 years on his own.”

“Even if you’re like, let’s say going to the town and all, but when you come home there’s no sound. There’s nothing you’d be looking forward to.”

Muhammed describes Austin as being like a granddad to him. “I had that kind of a feeling for him,” he said.

Austin said it was “brilliant” living with Muhammed and he was “great company” and a “godsend” to him.

“He does everything. He gets all my messages, washes the machine, cleans the house for me.”

Unfortunately, when Muhammed was on holiday in Pakistan, rogue builders took advantage of Austin and left him with a house that was barely habitable.

Roisin, Peter and their team had a massive task ahead of them, but the result was incredible.

Viewers fell in love with the pair, with one tweet saying, “name a more iconic duo.”

We don’t think we can tbh.

Oh, and by the way – the pair went interrailing together. Admit it, you’re already bawling!
