WATCH: People Can’t Get Over This France Player’s Irish Accent

James Fenton

You can take the boy out of Ireland, but you can’t take Ireland out of the boy.

Yesterday, Ireland’s under-20 rugby team lost 24-22 to France at the World Championship in Perpignan and while fans will be disappointed with the result, the sight of one player in a blue jersey has brought up a few smiles.

19-year-old Daniel Brennan, son of former Ireland international Trevor, moved to France in 2002 when his dad joined Toulouse. He is now lining out for Les Bleus and even though he was only a nipper when he crossed the channel, he hasn’t lost a trace of his accent.

Daniel’s Irish twang while being interviewed as a France player has certainly raised a few eyebrows online…

Brilliant stuff. If you heard Daniel walking down O’Connell Street you wouldn’t place him as a Frenchman at all. Let’s hope his career goes a long way and we can listen to his dulcet Dublin tones for many years to come.
