Emotional rollercoaster as this pet fox went missing, but all’s well that ends well

Fiona Frawley

Somewhere around the Blackstick/Shanliss areas in Ardee, Louth, Ruby the fox became separated from her owners yesterday.

If you’re thinking foxes can’t be pets, that’s fair enough. I’m sure you wouldn’t be the only one to feel that way. But a quick peek at this TikTok will show you that Ruby is one domesticated lil gal. Just look at her in her wee harness, pretty as a picture.

In the vid you can see her off out for walks on her stylish little leash, smiling in her owners arms and relaxing in the family home. Admittedly, she’s a little nippy but no more than the average young puppy learning the ropes. She’s the pet of self-professed fox whisperer Conor O Brien, who shared the video asking people to keep an eye out yesterday.

Luckily, the story has a happy ending. Conor released a video a few hours later showing Ruby looking cosy in a straw bed, lapping up the rubs and attention. He confirmed she was home safe and sound, and thanked everyone who helped and shared the vid. The best way to celebrate is by embarking on a deep dive of Conor’s TikTok, where you’ll find a gorge array of Ruby content, including her befriending a chicken. Fantastic Mr Fox could never.
