Crumlin-born Conor McGregor has been making headlines all over the world for some time now – but who knew that the rest of the world hosted such a keen interest from whence he came?

Yep, Dublin is the central theme in Wright Thompson’s piece on Conor McGregor, entitled Crossing Crumlin Road, for American TV channel ESPN’s coinciding online magazine.

The article goes into some depth about the MMA fighter’s past and locality, referring to Drimnagh and Crumlin as ‘projects’ and mentioning that so fierce are Dublin’s neighbourhoods – that ‘men can’t even walk their dates home’.

Needless to say, Twitter went wild.

Personifying Dublin as the gangster you cross the road to avoid when you see them on the street – ESPN’s article certainly tickled a feather with some of the capital’s locals.

What do you think of the article? Let us know in the comments.
