Google Maps Have A Nostalgic Surprise In Store For Easter Sunday

Megan Cassidy

Prepare to become obsessed with Google Maps this weekend – because this game sounds massively addictive.

The mobile map service has announced that they are launching a worldwide scavenger hunt this Easter Sunday, with our old pal Where’s Wally (Waldo in the States) taking centre stage.

On April 1st, users who open Google Maps will find Wally peeking out from the side of their screen and inviting them to come find him on a scavenger hunt. Wally will share his location and run away, and users will need to scroll, pan, and zoom around the map to find him.

Once they hit on the right location, a traditional 2D “Where’s Wally” image will pop up, and users will need to use their keen eye to find the famous red-and-white striped character.

Wally will be hiding in a number of well-known locations around the world, and users will be able to learn about the significance of the areas while trying to find Wally and friends. Users will also be able to ask their Assistant “Where’s Waldo?” to open the app on their phone.

Here’s a little preview of what it will look like – and we’re already living for it.

Announcing the game, “Wally” explains:

‘Once you spot me, you’ll be transported to places all around the world, where you can search for me over and over again. Incredible!

‘You can win wonderful and wacky badges throughout your journey by finding me and my friends. Remember, there’s Woof (but all you can see his is tail), Wenda, Wizard Whitebeard, and Odlaw.

‘Ready to join me on my travels? If you find me, take a screenshot and share it with @GoogleMaps on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #WaldoMaps. Let the journey begin.’

If you have kids, prepare for them to hijack your phone for the day.
