Rainy weekend forecast as weather warning issued for several counties

Looks like we might not be leaving the rain in July.

Showery conditions could be continuing at least for this weekend, as Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for three counties.

The alert is set to take effect from 9am to midnight on Saturday (29 July) and applies to Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo.

“The unsettled theme to our weather will continue over the coming days, with frequent heavy showers on Saturday,”Met Éireann said.

“Frequent heavy showers on Saturday may lead to localised flooding.”

As for the Irish meteorological service’s national forecast, it states that Saturday will be breezy and will see a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers throughout the day.

It also says that some of these showers will be “heavy and possibly thundery,” especially in the northwest, while the best of the dry intervals will be in Leinster.

Temperatures are set to range from 16 to 20 degrees, with conditions warmest towards the southeast.

Meanwhile, Sunday is forecasted to start cloudy but dry in most areas, although a few showers will continue, mainly in Ulster.

By midday, however, it is said that more persistent outbreaks of rain will begin pushing in from the west, gradually extending across the country throughout the afternoon and evening.

Again, temperatures are set to be between 16 to 20 degrees.

As for the following days, Met Éireann’s overview reads: “Remaining unsettled into next week with further outbreaks of rain or showers expected.”
