Kildare animal rescue appeals to public to foster horses over the winter months

Katy Thornton

The shelter are currently struggling with the amount of equine that have been coming in as of late.

My Lovely Horse Rescue, an animal welfare charity based in Kildare, is appealing to anyone who can foster a horse, donkey, or mule over these winter months. Already they are at capacity, and making room for more equine, even when there is no room. In this RTÉ News video, we meet Colson, a three month old pony who arrived at MLHR along with five others two weeks ago.

Currently the charity is looking after 360 equines, and they expect more to come into their care. They need help this winter, and are asking those eligible to consider fostering for a few months. Ideally they are looking for people who don’t own horses already, as they’re hoping to move some that are in quarantine.

Martina Kenny, co-founder of MLHR, says in the video:

We just want a place for those horses to go, to and be looked after. To get the love and care that we could give them here. But, because we’re so inundated with so many coming in right now, we just need the help, we really do need the help.”

MLHR are appealing to fosterers in the Kildare, Wicklow, and Meath area. They will support anyone who comes forward to help and provide all the necessary support.
