24 Hours In The Lovely City Of Limerick

Alan Fisher

What a beautiful city, aye.

I was on my way to the Cliffs Of Moher with nowhere to stay and Limerick popped up on Booking.com. I’ve never been before, so why the hell not?

We booked into The George Hotel and altered our directions on Google maps.

We stopped in Dromoland Castle on the way to take a few snaps for the ‘gram. Pretty nice place for it, would recommend to a friend.

Arriving in Limerick, we passed over a beautifully decorated bridge and into the city.

We were starving, so before checking into our hotel we legged it to The Buttery for some lunch and I’m glad we did.

I opted for the huevos rancheros which contains two fried eggs, chorizo, jalapeños, guac, salsa, chipotle sauce, tostada, sour cream and sourdough toast on the side. There was also a side of French toast for dessert along with a flat white.

This place is absolutely lovely and I would go back in a heartbeat.

After that big feed, we were ready to take on the day so we went for a little stroll around town to see what was on offer.

King John’s Castle is absolutely beautiful and I would definitely recommend checking it out. Viking settlement remains were found that dated back to 922, but the castle was erected in 1200 and is one of the best kept Norman castles in Europe.

Pretty cool.

As the weather was so nice, it was time to stop for a little refreshment before dinner.

House Limerick was on the cards and we were lucky to get a little seat out the front. The place is pretty slick and it was just kicking off as we headed to dinner. The nightclub here, Amber, is the place to hit a little later in the night.

Off to the Cornstore for dinner.

It’s a bit of fine dining, but honestly, for the quality of the food it wasn’t that pricey. I had prawn pil pil and roast pork belly for mains and both were stunning.

Sunday morning and only time left for one more meal. The decision was easy as we had checked out the Milk Market the day before on our stroll.

It’s a lovely little market under a canopy, so regardless of the weather it’s going to be on. They also do yoga classes and live music so it’s a really cool area.

After a quick look around, a local lad getting a breakfast bap from Country Choice swayed my decision. I’ve never seen anything look so good and it lived up to its looks.

A big round disc of pudding, rashers, sausages, eggs and BBQ sauce on a soft bap. Mmm.

The George Hotel was bang smack in the city centre and I would definitely stay here again. After that, we collected our bags and made our short trip over to the Cliffs Of Moher.
