Messages for 6th class

Messages for 6th class went live this morning, with a huge host of different people passing on their congratulations to the class of 2020.

Some of the country’s most famous faces have offered up messages of support for the class of 2020. Organised by children’s writer Sarah Webb, the Messages for 6th class project was set up as a way to celebrate the end of young students’ time in primary school.

A creative writing teacher with many 6th class pupils in her writing clubs, Sarah has heard first-hand just how tough the last few weeks have been for young people – particularly those coming up to the end of their primary school journey. Hoping to make the most of a bad situation, and give them the celebration they won’t get to have in-person, Sarah enlisted the help of some friends, asking them to submit a short inspirational message to the graduation class of 2020.

Reaching out to all those considered to be outstanding in their field, Sarah got in touch with everyone from actors to scientists, authors to athletes, activists to TV presenters, then compiling each individual clip into one long video. And the response was so great that the final product comes to being just under one-hour-long… a testament to just how loved and admired the country’s sixth class pupils are.

Leading the congratulatory messages you’ll spot submissions from Sinéad Burke, Amy Huberman, Rob Kearney, Judi Curtin and John Boyne but I wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise for you so have a watch of the full clip below.

To echo the above sentiments, here’s to the class of 2020 – as Don Conroy so aptly put it: “the world is your oyster”.
