The Great British Bake Off has confirmed that Matt Lucas will be taking over as co-host following the departure of Sandi Toksvig.
Former Little Britain star Matt Lucas will be joining Noel Fielding as co-host of hit Channel 4 show The Great British Bake-Off, taking over from Sandi Toksvig who announced her departure in January. The news was announced on social media this morning along with the caption’ On your marks, get set… say hello to the newest member of the Bake Off team – Matt Lucas.’

In a statement, Lucas said ‘I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television. I can’t wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers. And bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!’

For his part, Fielding added: ‘I love Matt. I love his warmth and his comedy and his big joyful smile. I think if we play our cards right we could become the next Chas and Morph.’
