The country is in for some hazardous conditions in the coming days with Met Éireann issuing a four-day weather advisory until later this week.

Warning the public to make sure they are well prepared ahead of the wintry conditions yet to come later this week, authorities shared their advice on how best to do so.

Sharing a brief outline of the three different weather warning categories, officials also tweeted a list of steps people can take to “be winter ready”.

Measures range from having a small supply of non-perishable foods to hand to keeping an extra supply of essential medication in the house in case conditions make it difficult to get to the doctor/pharmacy.

Other steps on the list include:

  • Have an adequate supply of fuel for heating/cooking
  • Have batteries for torches and alternative light sources in the event of power cuts
  • Have a water container to ensure a supply of drinking water
  • Know how to turn off your water supply
  • Keep mobile phones charged up – have local emergency numbers in your phone
  • Have a suitable snow shovel
  • Know your Eircode

The Road Safety Authority also issued a stark warning to motorists, advising drivers to exercise extreme caution if out and about in the coming days.
