WATCH: The Paddy’s Day Saturday Night Live Ireland Sketch Was Utterly Shite And Not Funny At All

Darragh Berry

Now, us Irish, we’re all for the craic. We’re the kings of craic some might say. We love poking fun at ourselves and majority of the time we won’t get offended.

If it’s funny…

This St. Patrick’s Day Saturday Night Live sketch about Ireland though, is actually down right shite.

Where to begin with the shiteness. Easy one, the accents.

Mother of holy Bono. In the days of YouTube and social media would someone not have a gawk at the internet to see how Irish people actually talk and what an accent should sound like.

In the game show – based on Blind Date – called “kiss me, I’m Irish” (original), contestant, Niall, is looking for love.

He’s also looking for a Dingle accent because he starts off talking like Alf Stewart but ends up sounding like the third Gallagher brother that was nearly in Oasis.

Eileen, Molly and Siobhán are the three girls also on the show, (the third girl can’t even pronounce her own name properly, calling herself “Shiv-van) and admist jokes about the Catholic Church, red hair, freckles and pots of gold, we find out that Niall is actually related to Eileen and Siobhán.

And apparently, we love being incest here in Ireland. Yeah, it was news to us too.

“Number 3 is my cousin so she’s definitely off to an early lead,” Niall says in his poor Kerry accent before Siobhán admits that they shifted in an alley behind the fishmongers “three good Fridays ago.”

Of course, the game has to take a commercial break when Fr. Michael arrives in to give everyone confession.

Begorrah, why don’t you have a look at it for yourself.

Spare us.
