Scottish Church Apologises After Publishing These Offensive ‘Irish Humour’ Jokes

A church in Fenwick, Scotland, has come under fire from local parishioners after publishing a full page of ‘Irish Humour’ jokes in its monthly magazine The Covenanter.

The jokes, which feature ‘funny’ situations with characters named Paddy, Murphy and Finnegan who are stereotyped as stupid.

The Daily Record said that one joke stated: 

“An American lawyer asked Paddy: ‘Why is it that whenever you ask an Irishman a question, he answers you with another question?’.

“‘Who told you that’, Paddy replied.”

Another said: ”Blaney phoned the maternity ward at the hospital.

‘Quick!’ he said. ‘Send an ambulance. My wife is going to have a baby!’

‘Tell me, is this her first baby?’ the intern asked.

‘No, it’s her husband.’

Parishioners took to the church’s Facebook page in outrage, with one commenter saying “Who on earth wrote this cretinous, bigoted drivel and how on earth was it sanctioned in what is supposedly a church magazine?”

The magazine, whose editor is described as an 82 year-old man who “was brought up in different times”, say the jokes were used as a last minute page filler and a full apology has been issued.

Awkward.
