Anyone with a Spotify Premium subscription – listen up.

While Spotify can be used for free with the additional of ads, many choose to pay for the premium option for a better listening experience. In Ireland that has cost €9.99 for several years, but unfortunately, like with many streaming platforms lately, that is about to change.

With new innovations coming to the app regularly, including the recent addition of the Spotify AI DJ, to the rumoured impending arrival of Spotify Hi-Fi (which would introduce increased sound quality), these all come at a cost. And so Spotify have announced a rise in monthly subscription fees.

When speaking of the price increase, the official Spotify blog post stated the following:

“We have continually revealed new opportunities for fans and creators to connect through the power of our platform, from discovery tools like our new AI DJ, to fan-favourite shared experiences like Blend and the introduction of podcasts and audiobook content.

“The market landscape has continued to evolve since we launched. So that we can keep innovating, we are changing our Premium prices across a number of markets around the world. These updates will help us continue to deliver value to fans and artists on our platform.”

Ireland has been revealed to be one of those markets, with existing members set to receive an email with the updated pricing. Those who are already members will be given a one month grace period, so the new prices won’t be implemented until your September pay date. However, new or returning subscribers will be paying the increased pricing straight away. The new price tiers are as follows:

  • Premium Individual – was €9.99, now €10.99
  • Premium Duo – was €12.49, now €14.99
  • Premium Family – was €15.99, now €17.99
  • Premium Student – was €4.99, now €5.99
