Teaser realeased for the Friends reunion: here's everything we know so far

Last night, a teaser for the much-anticipated Friends reunion was released on social media and as expected, people are going mad for it.

Sharing HBO Max’s announcement video of the new episode, Jennifer Anniston, who only joined Instagram in the past two years, wrote, “It’s official! The #FriendsReunion premieres May 27th on @HBOMax — could we BE any more excited?!”

Although, it has been confirmed that the six original six cast members (Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer) will be appearing as themselves rather than their respective characters, and viewers can expect to be treated to old behind-the-scenes footage as they reunite on the iconic sitcom’s original soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, California.

The Friends reunion has been described as an unscripted “celebration” of the beloved 90s/00s comedy series, according to a news release from HBO Max.

The statement reads, “In order to avoid any misunderstanding about what this special is, we want to make it very clear that this is not a new, original episode of the series.

“The cast will be appearing as themselves, not as their beloved characters.”

Plus, there will be a few familiar faces joining the cast for the special, including David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Elliott Gould, Kit Harington, Larry Hankin, Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon, Christina Pickles, Tom Selleck, James Michael Tyler, Maggie Wheeler, Reese Witherspoon and Malala Yousafzai.

Gould, Pickles, Selleck, Hankin, Lennon, Tyler, Wheeler and Witherspoon all guest-starred in the show during its ten-season run.

The reunion special was originally supposed to air in 2020 but, like many projects, was pushed back due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is not yet known how Irish viewers will be able to access the Friends reunion.
