Whoopi Goldberg confirms that Sister Act 3 is in the works

There have also been reports from Hollywood of sequels to The Social Network and Coyote Ugly!

While going to the cinema right now isn’t really an option, and then even when they do reopen fully, there are less big movies arriving than we previously assumed, Hollywood has still been keeping busy, making sure that the next few years will be filled with movies we can’t wait to see.

One of those movies is Sister Act 3, which Whoopi Goldberg confirmed is in the works. Speaking to James Corden, the Oscar-winning actress said that “For a long time they kept saying no one wanted to see it, and then quite recently it turns out that may not be true, people might want to see it.”

She then stated that she is “working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.”

Oh, happy days!

Speaking of the original 1992 movie (but not so much the 1993 sorta-flop sequel), Goldberg said “It’s a really fun movie. It’s fun and it feels good and you know, nobody’s mad. It’s just like listen, bad singing, great singing, OK singing and then nuns. What’s better than that?”

Tough to argue with.

That isn’t the only long-delayed sequel that could potentially be in the works though, as Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin spoke to MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast about his new Netflix movie The Trial of the Chicago 7, but the conversation soon turned to The Social Network turning ten years old, and whether Sorkin would return to write a sequel.

Sorkin stated that he would do it, as long as original director David Fincher returned too: “I do want to see it. And [producer Scott Rudin] wants to see it. People have been talking to me about it because of what we’ve discovered is the dark side of Facebook. Do I want to write that movie? Yeah I do. I will only write it if David directs it. If Billy Wilder came back from the grave and said he wanted to direct it, I’d say I’d only do it with David.”

And is that wasn’t enough, there is also talk of a Coyote Ugly sequel!

Admittedly, not quite the cultural landmarks of the above two movies, but sure to have its legions of fans, not least because of that Can’t Fight The Moonlight song that was literally EVERYWHERE for about a year.

Tyra Banks, who starred in the movie before America’s Next Top Model became a phenomenon, was on Kelly Clarkson’s talk show when she dropped the bombshell:

“I literally was supposed to be on a conference call today about bringing Coyote Ugly back. We were supposed to be on a call today, and I’m talking to you and I can’t talk to them. Yes, we are talking about trying to do Coyote Ugly 2 or a series.”

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we know what we’ll be singing for the rest of the day…
