The last blockbuster of 2020, and the first blockbuster since Tenet…
It was touch and go there for a while, especially after it was announced that it would be released simultaneously in cinemas AND on home streaming services in the States, but Warner Bros. have confirmed that Wonder Woman 1984 will be arriving in Irish cinemas this December.
Fans of the original (which made over $860 million at the box office) will see the return of Gal Gadot as the Diana Prince, this time moving the action for the midst of a world war to the day-glo sparkle of the 1980s. It will also see the return of Chris Pine as Diana’s love interest (which, if you’ve seen the original, definitely raises some questions), and will add Kristen Wiig as the villainous Cheetah, as well as Pedro Pascal as super bad guy Max Lord.
As for what the actual plot is… we’re not sure. It is being kept tightly under-wraps, but we’re definitely getting Batman Forever vibes from the trailer, which has Wiig slightly obsessed with our hero, and becoming a dark reflection of them.
Regardless, we will definitely be heading along to see it on as big a screen as possible, because the last blockbuster we watched on the big screen was Tenet, all the way back in July, and… it wasn’t great.
Plus it reportedly has a run time of 2 hours 31 minutes, so you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth from your cinema trip!
Wonder Woman 1984 is arriving in Irish cinemas nationwide from Wednesday, December 16.
