Here Are Two Of The Best Irish Bars In Berlin For Match Days

Jen

For some people, it’s an absolute crime to head to an Irish pub when they’re on holiday and for others, it’s neccesary for survival.

Whichever type of person you are, we think you’ll agree that finding a daycent Irish pub abroad is essential for match days.

I was recently in Berlin for the weekend with Harvey Norman to check out some of their new products. On the Sunday, we got to check out a couple of Irish bars for the All-Ireland final.

These two bars are perfect if you find yourself looking for a place to watch a GAA match in Berlin.

The Lir

Named after the fantastic Irish myth, ‘The Children of Lir’ – this pub is perfect for match days because it has a massive projector screen in the back room with plenty of tables for everyone to crowd around and watch the game.

We arrived about 20 minutes before the match started so we got great seats, but the place was packed after a couple of minutes. You could hear plenty of Irish accents and quite a few people donned their Dublin GAA jerseys for the occasion.

While every Irish pub serves Guinness, it’s rare to see a bottle of Bulmers (Magners, abroad) floating around, but this place has them.

The decor of the Lir isn’t very Irish, but it makes up for it with the massive projector screen, the Irish lads behind the bar, the Irish drinks and food.

The Irish Pub, Europa Center

While the name of this pub doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence, the interior of this place will transport you back to the pubs of your childhood. The dark wood, carpets and warm lighting will trick you into thinking you’re in any pub in Dublin, Galway, Cork or Offaly.

There are plenty of screens dotted around the pub so you’ll definitely be able to watch the match and there is usually live music most nights, meaning you can stay on and enjoy the atmosphere.

Last but definitely not least, the menu of drinks is jam-packed with Irish beers, whiskeys and cider, so you’ll definitely feel at home in this oddly named ode to Irish culture.
