Cork’s Festive Season Gets Underway This Weekend As The Christmas Lights Are Switched On

James Fenton

There’s still over 40 days until Christmas but all across the country people are starting to put their preparations for the festive season in place. This year, Dublin didn’t get an official switch-on event for its Christmas lights but Cork has never been one to follow how things are done in the capital.

Down in the Rebel City, the festive season will officially get underway this Sunday as the Christmas lights are turned on in the city. The ceremony will take place on St. Patrick’s Street between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and if it’s anything as magical as photos from previous years indicate than attendees are in for a treat.

You can’t beat the buzz of an Irish city at Christmas and Corkonions will doubtless be feeling the spirit of the season from Sunday onwards.

Large crowds are expected on the day so people are advised to get down early and comply with instructions from stewards. More information can be found here.
