It Looks Like Cork Will FINALLY Be Getting A Light Rail System As Government Outlines Plans For 2040

James Fenton

If you’re planning on living in Cork some time in the next 22 years then we’ve got some exciting news to bring you.

The Government has today unveiled ambitious plans to make Ireland a better place in the next couple of decades. Yes, we were also shocked to learn that the year 2040 is only 22 years away even though it sounds like it could be the title of a futuristic sci-fi movie.

Project 2040 includes plans to build four new Luas lines in Dublin as well as a Metro from the city to Dublin Airport.

The people of Cork haven’t been left out though with plans for a light rail system in the Rebel City also confirmed as well as a motorway linking Cork to Limerick.

Plans to build a tram-like system in Cork were first mooted in 2006 so let’s hope they actually carried out this time rather than swept under the carpet in a few years.
