The Top 10 Best Burgers in Chicago

evanmusgrave

The great metropolis of the Midwest has some of the finest agricultural land in the world surrounding it, so it’s no surprise that Chicago boasts arguably the most impressive array of burger joints in the country.

Chicago burger restaurants are true innovators, bringing a type of flair to the art of burgers that few cities, if any, can compete with. Out of the many, many burger outlets in the city, we’ve narrowed down the top 10 best places in town.

10. Hackney’s Printers’ Row

View in Google Maps

With a handy location south of Downtown in the heart of The Loop, this is a very busy spot. Hackney’s Printer’s Row isn’t the largest place, but the staff manage to fit a lot in, both in terms of tables and the food and drink on the menu. Expect efficient service with a wide range of great local craft beers to wash down your meal.

9. Davanti Enoteca

This might seem like a rogue choice. Davanti Enoteca is a restaurant in Little Italy known mostly for its high quality conventional Italian food and fine wines – but the Davanti Burger alone is enough to get this place on the list. With bacon jam, roasted tomatoes, arugula, cheese curds and roasted garlic mayo, this burger is heavenly, and even manages to be quite an alternative choice in a city with so many notable unusual burgers.

8. Leadbelly

Multiple locations, see website

Contrary to what the name may suggest, you don’t need an iron or lead stomach to handle these burgers. Far from it: these sumptuous burgers go down an absolute treat, something which is no doubt down to the attentive work of the chefs in sourcing the finest ingredients. They have an impressive gluten-free menu too.

6. Au Cheval

A touch of class. A tad more expensive but with a notably richer taste too. Au Cheval’s burgers are spot on, every time. On top of this, their signature crispy fries topped with a fried egg and Mornay (white cheese) sauce are awesome.

M Burger attracts a constant stream of customers by delivering an authentic American burger experience. There burgers are unapologetically greasy. Go ‘Roman Style’ with your burger and substitute the buns for two grilled cheese sandwiches.

4. Rockit Bar & Grill

A fun eatery with a cool Rock n’ Roll vibe and an inventive menu. Their Mac Attack Burger began as a limited edition offer but soon became a popular fixture and has gathered Rockit a lot of hype in the process. Just to clarify, we’re talking about a burger framed by two pieces of deep fried mac n’ cheese here.

The Downtown outlet is undergoing a revamp in Spring 2015, but Rockit holds its place on this list for its solid service over the years and the promise of greater things to come.

Edzos is known for providing stacked, extravagant burgers at prices that don’t break the bank. Many of their biggest offerings are available for under ten dollars. The Lincoln Park location has sadly closed, but its Evanston joint continues to serve up quality, affordable burgers. A high-calibre fast food experience beloved by locals.

Heavy metal is pervasive here, from the sounds coming over the speakers to the famous Slayer burger (the Pantera burger is also a huge hit). This burger joint has a great edgy atmosphere.
