We all love a good cocktail and unlike a few years ago where the choice was limited to shitty champagne Mojitos and crappy Sex on the Beach, the cocktail scene in the city is now exploding. Just like good coffee, quality sambos and food in general we are starting to be spoilt for choice. We would say you could try some sort of “12 Pubs of Xmas” type crawl around the city but given the strength and price of most of these bad boys you probably wouldn’t get past the 5th one without needing an ambulance or a new mortgage. If you like cocktails and live in Dublin then you simply have to try these all before you die…
10. Bagots Hutton
This has to be one of Dublin’s coolest spots and although it is better known for wine, you have to try their Limoncello & Prosecco Cooler topped with raspberry & mint to really know what life is all about. Chilled out and great food to be had in here as well.
9. Drury Buildings
The newest kid on the block but probably one of the best places to head for a casual drink or start the night out in. Try this beauty – the ‘BB-TINI’. It’s made up of Absolut Vodka, Lemon, Blueberry & Basil syrup, egg white. Delish.
8. The Marker
When they introduced Le Drunch (mixture between lunch and dinner) Dublin had something new to do on a Sunday. Their Bloody Mary is more like a meal than a cocktail and will get you back on your feet.
7. Opium
You don’t have to go much further than the name “Passionfruit And Lychee Meringue Martini” to know that this is a pretty special drink. Perfect for getting giddy – this is essentially a dessert in a glass.
6. The Exchequer
This has to be the ultimate place to kick back with a few cocktails during the week but also to have some awesome food. You could choose from any number on the list but this Bourbon Crush is right up there with the best drinks in the city.
5. Saba
You would expect a restaurant with some of the best thai food in the city to also serve up amazing cocktails – and yes they do. Order the Mai Thai.
4. The Dean Hotel
Dublin is going through a major gin revolution and you can never, ever go wrong with a simple G&T from the Dean Hotel – these guys use Fever Tree tonic water, which if you didn’t know is the latest hipster mixer. You can head up to their rooftop bar-restaurant Sophie’s and take in some of the best views of the city too.
3. 777
There will probably be outrage that this is not top of the list because Dubliners are addicted to margaritas but that shows the standard that we are working with here. Amazing drink that will put a smile on your face any day of the week.
2. The Blind Pig
This is a little bit of a secret on the Dublin cocktail scene and it changes venue often. They pride themselves on being a little underground and they have a huge range of cocktails but try the Tom Collins for a treat of a lifetime. You’ll have to go digging online to find out where they are.
1. Vintage Cocktail Club
There could only really be one winner on this list. From focusing on the ice, spraying all sorts of fancy shit over the drinks and generally being awesome this is the only place for a cocktail in Dublin cocktail in Dublin. Impossible to pick one from the list because they are all so good but I’ve gone with the Manhattan.
