Irish Teens Urged To Apply For One Of 20,000 Free Interrail Passes

Applications are now open to apply for one of the 20,000 free Interrail passes made available as part of an EU scheme.

Open to all 18-year-olds in Ireland, you could bag yourself the chance to travel around Europe for free this summer and get one of the passes that usually costs €600 to buy.

The DiscoverEU scheme gives teens the opportunity to apply for a free Interrail pass that’s valid for up to 30 days and can be used any time between August 1, 2019 and January 31, 2020.

The successful applicants are encouraged to share their experiences on social media and will also get the chance to join in organised community-building events during their travels.

Any EU nationals born between born between July 2, 2000 and July 1, 2001 can apply and a total of 194 of the passes will be allocated to Irish 18-year-olds.

Applications are open until May 16, but don’t worry if you miss out this time – the European Commission is planning to launch a fourth round before the end of 2019.
