If you have any food allergies, you better keep on reading.

Almost one third of food outlets and businesses do not provide customers with allergen information, a new report has found.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland conducted a report which focused on 50 firms across the country.

The results? Somewhat worrying. Of those firms who do actually include allergen information, only 24% is accurate. Almost 90% of the firms investigated have been told to correct the situation – and rightly so.

Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive of the FSAI, on the results of the report said,

“Allergic reactions to food make people ill and in particular situations can be fatal. Whether consumers are eating out, getting takeaways or having food delivered to their home or workplace, food businesses have a legal obligation to provide accurate food allergen information in writing.”

So if you’re heading out to eat on this sunny day, make sure you ask for all the information available to keep yourselves healthy and full!
