Much-Loved Cork Shop Set To Close Its Doors After 62 Years

The Irish Examiner are reporting that famed antique and vintage shop P. Cashell’s on Winthrop Street in Cork is set to permanently close its doors. 

The store is known for the sale of Irish historical artefacts, as well as local crafts and antiques.

Paul Cashell’s father Paddy started trading in 1954 and Paul puts the closure partly down to the increase in online sales and the changing face of Cork City:

“Cork City has changed a lot since my father Paddy began trading here in the Marian year of 1954.”

“Much vintage and historic merchandise was bought in this shop for many homes. We had many characters and famous faces shop here.”

“But like all things in life, history is writing a new chapter for our family. Online sales and auctions are now more prevalent and we need to accept change — c’est la vie.”
