Ireland Has Three Entries On The European List Of Innovative Universities

Ireland has three entries on the second annual Reuters report of the most innovative universities in Europe. The list identifies universities across Europe and ranks them accordingly in terms of innovation and invention.

Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, and University College Dublin all made the list in 60th, 75th and 98th place respectively.

Despite our small population, this means Ireland has more innovative universities, per capita, than anywhere in Europe.

Following Ireland on the same terms, the second most-innovative country is Belgium, where the number one university (KU Leuven) on the list is found.

Reuters said that Trinity College is “a world leader in the discovery and exploitation of the new nanomaterial graphene“.

The list acknowledged one of University College Cork’s most recent innovations and reads: “The company came up through Cork’s IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Center, and its product has been deployed in Ireland, throughout the United Kingdom and the United States.”

UCD was noted to have “raised more than €1 billion in research grants during the past decade”.
