Places specialising in fried chicken have been popping up on menus all across Melbourne for the last few years and are very much on-trend in the capital – but if ever there was a subject to split opinion it is the place serving the very best in town.
Everybody is going to have their own opinion (and feel free to get involved in the comments) but we are confident that these 10 places will see you good. All you need to do now is work your way through the list and get licking those fingers!
10th. Belle’s Hot Chicken
The people of Melb can’t get enough of this Nashville inspired joint. There’s a variety sauces and sides so you can create your wings masterpiece. This place is packed at the weekends so give yourself plenty of time and be prepared to wait… but it’ll all be worth it. We promise.
9th. The B. East
Known to doing their burgers right, The B. East has also acquired quite a name for their incredible wings. Portions are smaller than your average, but that’s the point. Start on these, then up the anti with a mouthwatering burger.
8th. Chick-In
If there’s one thing you’ve got to notice about Melbourne, it’s that they love their Korean food. This is the first Korean restaurant to feature on this list and their menu is short, great value for money and delivers freshness as far as we’re concerned. These are wings that you eat on the go, it’s not a place you linger with pals for a few hours. You’ll be in and out and satisfied.
7th. The Collection
You’ll get everything you wanted from this American-style bar. They serve up some of the best buffalo wings with blue cheese… And the best thing? Their $1 wings on Sundays, perfect to have alongside a bloody Mary when you’re hungover. What more could you want?
6th. Rockwell & Sons
These guys featured on our top burgers post so it’s obvious they’re smashing it when it comes to their food. They also serve up some mean fried chicken. Perfect accompanied with a cold beer.
5th. Le Bon Ton
Le Bon Ton is a late night bar and supper club which is known for its Texas-style BBQ and oyster saloon. They do the most succulent southern-fried chicken too. Order the buffalo wings with a side of corn while you’re having a few beers. Goes down too easy.
4th. Paperboy Kitchen
This place doesn’t get any better. They’ve cider, dinosaurs, cookies and wings. They’ve just the right amount of options on the menu, but most come here to start with their epic fried chicken. You should do the same. Unreal.
3rd. The Kodiak Club
These guys specialise in all things bourbon but are also famous for their mind-blowing wings. Order by the dozen, dip wit blue cheese and ignore the celery. You won’t be disappointed.
2nd. Meatmother
It’s recommended that you come here on a very empty stomach and be prepared for a massive, unbelievably satisfying feed. The entire menu is super value but don’t leave here without having the wings pass your lips. Do it!
1st. Gami Chicken & Beers
Undeniably the best place in Melbourne to get fried chicken, Gami shows that the Koreans know how to do it right. Get the original half and half – choose spicy and soy/garlic flavours to ensure the best feed. You’ll get enough to share between two and order a chilled beer to wash it all down.
