Ultimate Guide To The Best Irish Bars In New York

louisejohnston

With strong ties between America and Ireland, it’s no surprise that you can’t turn a corner in New York without spotting an Irish bar. From perfect pints of Guinness to drinking Irish whiskey neat you just can’t beat the craic you get from these world famous boozers. So here’s our ultimate guide to the best Irish bars in New York:

Galway Hooker Pub

Before you get ahead of yourself let me remind you that a Galway Hooker is actually a traditional sailing boat. But as the catchy name suggests, frequent punters adore this authentic pub. They’ve an upstairs bar, a downstairs bar, a Jameson room, confession room and a bullshit corner. Nothing is done in halves here!

McSorley’s

It would have been a sin to not include this institution. Said the be the oldest Irish tavern in Manhattan, McSorley’s has a geniune Irish feel about the place. Entering this pub, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported back in time as it’s full to the brim with character.

The Irish Haven

It doesn’t get better than this. It doesn’t look like your typical Irish bar, in fact it feels more like a dive bar but it much loved by the locals. Guaranteed craic here.

Molly’s Shebeen

This list wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Molly’s. You’ll get a big warm ‘failte’ upon entry. In fact, this bar is probably more authentic than the actual Irish pubs in Ireland. Complete with sawdust and a log-burning fire, Molly’s boasts the heartiest menu in the city that along with a pint of the black stuff will leave you feeling completely cosy.

Jameson’s Bar & Kitchen

What could be more perfect? Nothing, that’s what. Our obsession with whiskey dates back a very long time, a story too long to tell but an Irish bar called Jameson’s? It excites us and many too much to put into words.

The Late Late

The newest addition to the Irish bar scene in the city, The Late Late certainly carries an gaelic vibe, but with an 1960’s Irish living room twist. This lower east side local has already made waves, featuring on publications like The New York Times and Forbes and recently hosting Florence & The Machine at an after-party after the Governor’s Ball. This is a lively bar with an awesome menu to match.
