It’s not news that Italy’s capital would be the mecca for some of the most amazing food in the world that will ever pass your lips. There are literally hundreds of eatieries dotted around the ancient city so we decided to make life easier for you and pick out the top 21 places in Rome to suit every occasion! Here they are, in no particular order (you’re welcome)!

1. Angelina a Trevi

If you’re looking for gorgeous food on a budget then come here. You pay a flat rate for your plate and fill it up. Perfect for brunches with friends and there’s always a lovely atmosphere here too.

2. Ba’ Ghetto

You’ll find yourself surrounded by locals – which is always a good sign when it comes to eating in places you’re not so familiar with. Ba’ Ghetto is a chain and they’ve got 3 outlets across Rome. All the food served here is kosher as well – choose from a variety of vibrant mediteranean dishes on the menu. Perfect for a quick bite.

3. Alle Fratte di Trastevere

One of the very few ‘untouched’ gems of Rome, Alle Fratte di Trastevere will transport you into another decade. They’re well known for their amazing seafood dishes so don’t come here and order anything else!

4. Urbana 47

Looking for somewhere to go for Sunday brunch? Look no further than Urbana 47. Get cosy in the coolest little place in the trendy neighbourhood, Monti! Order anything on the menu but make sure you wash it all down with one of their amazing desserts okay?

5. La Carbonara

If you want to know where the best pasta in Rome is… you’ll find it under the roof at La Carbonara in Monti. It’s very important to reserve a table or else you’ll be left bitterly disappointed cause this place is always packed to the rafters. Come here with a hangover so you can eat your way through some incredible comfort food.

6. Da Valentino

Da Valentino is a favourite lunch spot among the businessmen and government workers from the nearby Quirinal Palace. You’ll be served up some incredible old-school italian food here, everything drizzled in oil but make sure you tuck into the grilled scamorza cheese!

7. Glass Hostaria

This place ticks all the boxes if you’re looking for something a bit more modern in Rome. We recommend you try the 7 course tasting menu so you can experience all the amazingness the menu has to offer. Come for dinner, reserve a table in advance and pair all their wonderful food with great wines.

8. Mordi e vai

Do not, and we repeat, do not come to Rome without hitting up Mordi e vai AKA Hit And Go. If you’ve got an uncontrollable hunger this place will quickly fill that void.

9. Il Pagliaccio

If you’re looking for a bit of luxury in the Italian capital then be sure to make a reservation here. This stunning 2 Star Michelin restaurant only has 11 tables, making it one of the most intimate place you could go for a meal. Perfect for an anniversary dinner or if you’re trying to impress your other half! Can’t go wrong here.

10. Armando al Pantheon

If you rate service as a super-important element to a restaurant experience than you’ll leave beaming after coming here. They pride themselves in their personable approach. It’s totally worth the hype… and the food ain’t half bad either (it’s fabulous).

11. Open Colonna

If you’ve a bit of cash to burn and are looking for something really upmarket than come here. You’ll be wowed just by the bright, inviting architecture of the building it sits in… not to mention the Michelin starred food that will be served to you.

12. Flavio al Velavevodetto

If you’re looking for an authentic trattoria with great ambiance than this place has just that. Their house wines are incredible Great ambiance that makes it feel like an authentic trattoria. The location is pretty cool too – it’s been built right into the mountain so you feel worlds away from the bustling city.

13. Trattoria Monti

Some say this is the very best trattoria in Rome, Trattoria Monti is popular amongst the locals, which means you know it’s going to be a fabulous experience. They’re known for their incredible service, über stylish interior and top notch food. We’d advise you to book well in advance to avoid disappointment – and if and when you get a reservation you’ll leave with having a great experience from this family ran restaurant.

14. La Pergola

Right, if you’re looking for a taste of luxury in Rome then you have got to come here. The Three Star Michelin restaurant will blow your tastebuds! Arrive hungry, request a window seat (with magnificent views of the city) and try the 9 course tasting menu. Excellent stuff.

15. Il Convivio Troiani

Il Convivio Troiani is one of the most romantic places you can go in Rome. A bit different to the usual restaurants in the city – you’ll only be served up modern Italian food. Marvelous none the less.

16. Ai Tre Scalini

This gorgeous wine bar was founded over a hundred years ago and not much has changed since. They boast a super wine-matching menu that’ll leave you wanting more (wine and food)! You’ll find this place packed in the evenings and you’ll have not a bad word to say leaving. Try the lasagne or meat balls.

17. L’Asino d’Oro

This is a very good option if you’re looking for an epic dinner away from tourist traps. Make reservations. This isn’t your traditional italian but don’t let that deter you – everything cooked here is packed full of flavour and freshness.

18. La Taverna Dei Fori Imperiali

This eatery is super-relaxed. You can get pretty much every type of italian dish here... and it’s also a favourite of visiting Hollywood celebrities – which you can see from the photos that line the the walls.

If you’re looking for something other than Italian food while you’re in Rome, then this gorgeous authentic Ethiopian restaurant will hit the spot. The food is fresh and simple, you can’t go wrong coming here.

20. Antico Arco

Antico Arco is a stylish modern restaurant with a menu to match. It’s on the more expensive scale of eateries in Rome but well worth it – it would make the perfect place to end your trip in. Just make sure you leave room for one of their famous desserts!

21. Cul de Sac

If you’re looking for charcuterie in Rome head here. You’ll be left whiping your chin leaving here – the meats and cheese are that good. Make sure you order a big glass of wine to wash it all down with. Stunning.
