The Full Irish Breakfast Has Apparently Changed Forever

James Fenton

What ever happened to sausages, rashers and a fried egg?

A survey carried out by Aldi has revealed that spicy wedges, sausages covered in marmalade, guacamole, steak and even chilli flakes are now essential ingredients of a full Irish breakfast.

In more comforting news, 39% of participants still view the humble sausage as the most important ingredient of an old-fashioned fry-up.

Other findings include:

– 55.26% indulge in a full Irish breakfast 1-2 times a week.

– 81.05% choose toast over bread with brown wholemeal bread (31.33%) coming in at number one.

– 55% choose tea as their accompanying drink, with 23% picking coffee and 17% plumping for orange juice. (sidenote: Tea AND orange juice, anyone? Just us?)

Plenty of weird habits were revealed as well such as:

– piling everything on top of the toast and eating it all in one go

– saving the bacon until last

– beans aren’t allowed to touch any other food

– wrapping the black pudding around a sausage and dipping it in ketchup.

We’re not quite sure about that last on but each to their own.
