For decades now Irish people have been flown all over the world by Aer Lingus and their famous green livery. We thought it was about time we gave them a little love and shared some of the reasons most Irish people get a pang of nostalgia and a warm fuzzy feeling when thinking about the airline. In the week where a possible takeover big from IAG could go through here are some of the reasons Irish people will always have a special place in their heart for Aer Lingus…
.That soothing feeling you get when you see the big green shamrock as you walk down to the gate
.Or the sensation that you are back on “Irish soil” even though the plane is still in America
.The fact that the planes used to look like this not that long ago!
.This is how it all began (Photo from 1949)
.The fact that you get to use the big shiny Terminal 2 rather than the rickety old shed that is terminal 1
.The bright green uniforms that the staff have to wear. Clearly a chore for them but we all remember them for as long as we have been alive.
.The fact that the cabin crew are all incredibly sound. The words “Cead Mile Failte” were clearly designed with them in mind
.The fact that they have a crisp sandwich on their menu. What other airline in the world would do that?
.The soothing voice if the Irish captain who sounds like your granda and who you know will get you there safely
.The fact that it being an Irish airline you’ll know at lest 4 other people on the flight that you meet randomly
.Nobody judges you despite you’ve had 3 pints of cider before the 7am flight on the way to Malaga. So has everybody else.
.Unlike other airlines the crew aren’t on a power trip about putting mobile phones away, watching safety instructions and staying in your seat. Sure it’ll be grand. Always has been!
.There is no annoying klaxon or music when you land on time.
.The sight of the green green fields of home as you pass over Howth head and down turn down and see Ballymun.
.The fact that you fly to real big proper established airports like Heathrow that don’t involve a bus journey into town that is longer than the flight itself was.
.The full Irish breakfast that has cured so many hangovers and fed so many business people on the way to foreign destinations
.They’ve painted a plane to support the Irish World Cup Team this year
.Foreigners seem to think the airline is named after a sexual act
What’s Aer Lingus? Is it oral sex in the sky?

I’ll never stop being disappointed that Aer Lingus is an airline and not a sex act.
