Mayo ‘wet pub’ list six insightful observations they’ve noticed since reopening

We know, we know. The phrase ‘wet pub’ should be banished forever but ‘pubs that don’t serve food’ makes for a bit of a wordy headline. So, just cut us some slack on this one.

All over Ireland, wet, ahem, ‘pubs that don’t serve food’ reopened their doors last Monday for the first time since March, much to the joy of publicans and customers alike. Except, of course, for Dublin, whose level 3 status meant these kinds of establishments are yet to open and Donegal, where pubs opened briefly before the county entered risk level 3 on Thursday.

Other counties may follow, as outlined here, but for now, 24 counties around Ireland are free to serve pints without having to offer food at the same time. One such spot is Mellett’s Emporium in Swinford, Co. Mayo who have reported a successful opening seven days back in business. Taking to Twitter, Mellett’s outlined six observations which may prove useful for pubs in Dublin waiting to hear when they can reopen. Citing the soundness of customers and an increase in their daily steps, Mellett’s wrote: ‘We made it through week 1.here’s what we know…

 – Customers are so sound

– Table service is hard work

– Averaging 20k steps a day

– Bookings difficult but it works

– Really miss bar stools

– So so so grateful to be open’

Their gratitude is sure to be replicated across the country and it’s great to see publicans back doing what they do best. If we keep following HSE guidelines, this could be a regular sight in every county in the not too distant future.
