Remember Kevin Murphy? He’s Back With A New Song About Cork And It’s A Bit Sad

James Fenton

Back in January, Cork musician/comedian Richy Sheehy sprang to internet fame when he posted a video of his character Kevin Murphy performing a chant dedicated to the stars of Liverpool FC.

The clip featured Kevin(Cork’s biggest Liverpool fan)’s catchy take on The Archies’ classic Sugar Sugar which he tweaked as a tribute to Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mané (otherwise known as the Fab Four before Coutinho moved to FC Barcelona).

The original video has now been viewed nearly 3.5 million times and led to a number of TV and other media appearances for the Cork funnyman, both in here Ireland and across the water.

The success of the clip can largely been attributed to the catchiness of the tune as well as Richy’s decision to focus on the lucrative market of English Premier League fans but how do you follow up such a massive hit?

One way to start is by doing a cover of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car except making it about Cork and all the zany characters that reside there. Richy released his first full-length video on Easter Sunday and while there are plenty of laughs, it’s also quite a poignant look at male friendships in People’s Republic. Think The Young Offenders with more references to Eminem and Dr. Dre thrown in.
