Conferring ceremonies are in full swing down in Waterford IT this week, with today marking day two of the celebrations.
Amongst the graduates at today’s ceremonies was 82-year-old Tom Boyle.

One of Ireland’s oldest third-level graduates, the Wexford native is now also a proud degree-holder having graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English and Irish.
This isn’t his first time in the spotlight though, having shot to fame back in 2016 when a video of Tom’s classmates singing happy birthday to him went viral.

One of almost 3,000 other graduates who will receive degrees at WIT this week, Tom was up at the crack of dawn to commute back and forth each morning.
Speaking to RTE News, Mr Boyle said that returning to education was something he “always wanted to do”.
Supported at the ceremony by his wife Phyllis, seven children and grandchildren, it’s no doubt a very proud day for the family.
