Waterford Autumn Bucket List – Seven Things To Do In The Déise County As The Days Get Shorter

James Fenton

The summer is over and every part of Ireland will soon be covered in the colourful shades of autumn, not least Waterford.

The Déise County has plenty to see and do at this time of year so get your big coat on, breathe in the autumn air and feel that crunch under your boots.

You should be able to tick most of these off in the coming months:

Mount Congreve Gardens

Located just outside of Kilmeaden, the grounds are home to so many little gems, it’s hard to list them all. Take for example, the Chinese Padoga which takes centre stage in an old quarry in the middle of the gardens.

This is a great day out for anyone who loves a bit of autumnal fresh air and you can read more about it here.

Aggie Hayes

On the road to Dunmore East you’ll find one of the quaintest little pubs in the country.

Aggie Hayes’ is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, with buses from the city regularly bringing enthusiastic visitors to sample the atmosphere, the drink and the music.

Explore Curraghmore Estate

When Curraghmore isn’t hosting the annual All Together Now festival, it serves as the home of the 9th Marquis of Waterford.

The grounds are nothing short of stunning and can even be admired from your car, as you drive around in the pouring rain.

Spin along the Copper Coast

A stretch of coastline that sits between the towns of Tramore and Dungarvan, and it’s widely regarded as one of the most scenic drives in Ireland.

Get away from it all at Mahon Falls

Some of the nicest mountain views in Ireland can be found here. Take a bit of time listening to the soothing sounds of the waterfall. This place is lovely for those who like to stretch the legs while taking in some stunning scenery.

Cycle the Greenway

A wonderful experience any time of the year but this is particularly pleasant with a cool autumn breeze hitting your face. The Greenway stretches from the city to Dungarvan and you can bring your own bike or rent one at various starting points. More on this here.

Grab a coffee in Blackfriars

If you’re around the city on a chilly autumn day then you’ll need something to warm you up. Blackfriars provides a great menu at any time of the day and you should definitely sample the hot chocolate while you’re here.
