A new year, even a new decade …but the same unpredictable Irish weather.
Met Eireann took to Twitter last night to wish the public a very happy New Year…following their well wishes up with some less than ideal weather predictions.

According to the national weather forecaster, it will be “a cold start to the new year with some frost & icy patches away from the West coast.”

The country will be misty in parts with “varying amounts of cloud”.

Adding that it will become breezy with highs of 6 to 10C, there will be freshening southerly winds which will become very blustery later along Atlantic coasts.
It’s not all bad news though, with some “bright or sunny spells in parts of the E & SE at times”. Something to look forward to if you’re planning a lovely New Year’s Day stroll.

Tonight’s forecast predicts more wind and rain along the west coast.
“Windy tonight and dry for the most part, but increasing cloud will bring rain to parts of the southwest, west and northwest by morning.”
Temperatures will fall to between 3 and 6 degrees Celsius this evening, later rising to between 7 and 10 degrees.
Tomorrow will see wet weather, with some heavy rainfall likely in the northwest. Showers are predicted to clear on Thursday night with most areas becoming dry. Frost may develop in some parts of the country as temperatures dip to between 2 and 4 degrees.
Friday and the weekend will be mostly dry, bringing a good deal of bright weather. It will be mildest in the southeast with light to moderate winds – stronger and blustery along the north coast.
The best of the weekend sunshine will be localised around the south and east with maximum temperatures between 8 and 10 degrees.
