History Nuts LISTEN UP! Did You Know You Can Stay In A Medieval Ringfort In Wexford?

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

History nuts rejoice!

When I was in school one of the most memorable history lessons we had was learning about medieval Ireland. We were absolutely buzzing the day our teacher told us we would be taking a trip to the National Heritage Centre in Wexford to see a real-life crannóg.

Well, now you can one up on those childhood history tours by actually staying on site.

You can stay in a Medieval Ringfort, a fort which was common in Ireland 1500 years ago.

You’ll be residing in the farmer’s house within the ringfort during your stay. Here is where you will get to experience life as it would have been like for our ancestors in the time of the Druids and St. Patrick.

The Ringfort is set in the beautiful grounds of the Irish National Heritage Park and you will have full access to the Park during your stay – even after it closes to the public!

At night, there will be songs and storytelling over the firepit and rooms come with a chessboard.

The ringfort has been constructed with authentic materials that our ancestors would have used- oak and ash trees in the roof, reed thatch on the roof and stone for the walls.

The ringfort sleeps 6 with 3 beds and one bathroom and comes in at €300 per night.

Sounds like an incredible experience.
