Belfast’s Christmas Market returns this weekend

Sarah Finnan

The Belfast Christmas Market is set to return this week.

Mulled wine, holiday music, chocolate-covered this, and chocolate-covered that. Give me all of it.

There’s a whisper of Christmas on the air, but things are about to get a whole lot more festive up in Belfast thanks to the return of the annual Christmas Market.

It’s never too soon to start celebrating in my book.

Making a welcome return to Belfast City Hall, it’ll officially kick-off on November 16th. That’s this Saturday, folks.

Hallelujah.

It will be present buying central up there with 20 chalets and over 90 traders selling jewellery, clothing and crafts.

And what’s a market without food? Serving up some of the city’s finest festive eats, the food court is a fool-proof way to guarantee no one goes hangry. The bench-style seating means you might just make a few new friends too.

Some of the grub from last year.

Other attractions include the vintage helter-skelter, which offers the best views, and the always popular carousel.

This year’s market will also see improved amenities for those with sensory needs thanks to a partnership with the NOW Group. The Donegall East Side square of the market will feature a quiet room, acting as a peaceful escape for when the hustle and bustle of the market becomes too much.

All market traders have also been given awareness training about the JAM card. An acronym for ‘Just A Minute’, it is a social innovation that offers users a discreet way to say that they may need a little extra time and patience.

Available at the quite room and downloadable as an app, it allows for a more user-friendly visit to the market.

Running until Sunday, December 22nd the market will be open Monday-Wednesday 10am-8pm, Thursday-Saturday 10am-10pm and Sunday 12noon-6pm.
