Cork’s oldest chipper has reopened for fancy fish and chips

kielys corks oldest chipper

This chipper has been around for 80 years.

Mattie Kiely launched Kiely’s chipper on Maylor Street, Cork in 1940. It closed down in 2007, just ahead of the bust, and remained that way until 2022. Now, the boys from Blue Haven have reopened the premises and hope to continue Kiely’s fish and chips legacy. The lads have been teasing Kiely’s reopening since December, and three weeks ago it officially reopened.

They took to Instagram to announce it, with this caption:

In 1940, Mattie Kiely opened the doors of No. 4 Maylor Street, little did he know over 80 years on his legacy still remains. We are extremely honoured to reopen the doors of 4 Maylor Street, the décor and offering may be different, but the main focus is keeping up traditional values and standards Mattie instilled infusing a Blue Haven twist.”

Doesn’t that menu look absolutely divine? We’re especially keen to try their take on the classic Chip Butty. Kiely’s opens Wednesday to Sunday from 12.30pm to 9pm. A must-try spot if you’re a Cork local or a tourist.
