A sign has appeared outside a Cork postbox, advising locals not to use it as there is a nesting bird inside. Gives whole new meaning to “a little birdie told me”…
A postbox down in Co Cork has been rendered unusable, for possibly one of the most adorable reasons – that being that a nesting bird has taken up residence inside.
Sharing a photo of the postbox in question, Emma Gilleece also posted a close-up image of the accompanying sign that warned passersby against disturbing the inhabitants. It reads:
“This postbox is currently out of service due to a nesting bird. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
So important is the notice that it’s even visible on Google maps. See below.

Others have been sharing similar tales in the comments with one Wexford man saying that it’s an annual occurrence down his way and his local postbox “goes out of service nearly every year for the birds”. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it as the saying goes… those Wexford birds know a good nesting spot when they see it and they’re not about to lose it to Postman Pat.

People have delighted at the discovery, commenting that it’s “so Irish” and would only happen on the Emerald Isle. There are many reasons to love this little country and something like this is most definitely one of them.
