One of the busiest shopping thoroughfares in Cork city has been pedestrianised for outdoor seating so as to allow business owners more room to seat guests while still adhering to social distancing protocol.
Businesses across Ireland reopened to the public yesterday, welcoming customers back for the first time in several weeks. Having implemented a number of new health and safety measures, it’s fair to say that the dining experience will look very different going forward with both staff and customers needing to adjust to a new way of doing things.
One such business to reopen is Clancy’s down in the Rebel County. A popular Cork city pub, the venue underwent extensive renovations over the past few weeks in preparation of its grand return. Showing off a brand new state of the art rooftop bar, the pub also featured an outdoor seating area that allowed for greater social distancing between customers. One of the city’s busiest shopping thoroughfares, Princes Street has been pedestrianised in an effort to work with local businesses and ensure proper protocol is being met.
Sharing a photo of the new setup online, Clancy’s has been at the heart of the city from as far back as 1930 – making it a huge part of Cork life.

Locals have praised the new system, commenting on the great atmosphere and calling for the ‘eat on the street’ initiative to be picked up by more business across the city. With almost a dozen eateries on Princes Street alone, yesterday’s success story has encouraged more pubs and restaurants to follow suit. So long as the weather cooperates, eh lads?
