Popular west of Ireland staycation spots hit with swimming ban

James Fenton

Clare County Council has placed a temporary swimming ban at some popular beaches in the county due to increased bacteria levels.

A statement was issued this morning which says: ‘Clare County Council, on the advice of the HSE, has placed a temporary prohibition on swimming at Lahinch, White Strand Miltown Malbay, Spanish Point and Kilkee due to increased bacterial levels in the bathing water following heavy rainfall.’

All four locations are popular bathing spots for locals and visitors alike and with many Irish people holidaying in Co. Clare this summer, it’s something to be aware of.

On the bright side, the weather forecast for this weekend is looking very positive indeed, with temperatures expected to reach the mid-20s on Saturday and Sunday. You can read more on that here but remember, if you’re in these Co. Clare locations you’ll have to stay away from the water until the ban is lifted.
