Ghost Story 2: ‘I Had No Control Over Myself — I Kept Moving Towards Her’

Ciarán’s Story

I’ve been involved in scouting since I was about six years old and a campsite we would often visit is Larch Hill in the Dublin Mountains, close to the Merry Ploughboy.

Ever since I started in scouting the one ghost story that sticks out is about the Blue Lady who haunts Larch Hill, every time I’m there someone tells about it. I’ve heard plenty of people tell me how they had seen a lady walking the grounds, dressed in blue, but had never witnessed anything myself… until one night I was there late, after 2am, walking down to the front gate to meet some people coming up from the pub. As I strolled down I could see someone in front of me in a blue dress walking down the driveway. Now if you haven’t been up in Larch Hill, it’s pitch black and there isn’t a lot around, so to see someone in a blue dress at that hour is terrifying.

I knew of a shortcut down, so I used it to try catch up to this woman, but when I got back onto the driveway she was nowhere to be seen. Feeling a bit spooked, I continued on to the gate and as I came around the last bend there she was again. As I approached, feeling as though I had lost all control of my legs, she looked up and straight at me. Sheer panic set in then, it was as if she looked straight into my soul.

I had no control over myself — I kept moving towards her. When I was about five feet away from her, I heard my friends coming up the road and then she was just gone.

To this day, people don’t believe me when I tell them how close I came to the Blue Lady…
