10 Best Places To Grab A Coffee And Work In Cork With Free Wi-Fi

Many of us choose to work remotely these days with ties to the physical office not as important as they once were. You might need to check your emails between meetings, tie up a few loose ends online at the end of a day or simple want a change of scenery but finding the perfect spot for a bit of surfing can be tricky.

I've been looking for places in Cork to work remotely. A large number of the public areas in the city centre offer free Wi-Fi which include Paul Street, French Church Street, Careys Lane, St. Patrick Street, Grand Parade, Bishop Lucy Park, Emmet Place, The Boardwalk and Cornmarket Street. This public Wi-Fi is provided by Bitbuzz and is grand if you're going about your day-to-day but if you need to work remotely with the laptop you'll need a good lobby or coffee shop to set-up camp in. There are a few vitally important things when looking for a place with free Wi-Fi to work which are:

  • A good strong free Wi-Fi connection
  • Plugs to charge laptops and phones
  • Good coffee

All of the venues selected below tick all the boxes and are spread out around the city to give you an option for all situations. Make sure to enhance the list with some suggestions of your own in the comments. We'll keep this list updated and add to it so don't be shy to add new ones you find. A spot worth a mention (but isn't free to use the Wi-Fi) is the, which has all the amenities if you're willing to fork out.

10. Cork International Airport

Kinsale Road

Might seem like a random suggestion, but it was given to me by a Cork man himself who likes to work remotely. Working from here gaurantees the best W-Fi and gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

9. Gulpd

Triskel Arts Centre, Tobin Street

Located beside Cork's Arts Centre, Gulpd has something for everyone. Super quirky place with great Wi-Fi, friendly staff and they've plenty of events on in the evenings from poetry to DJs - making it a culture hub.

8. Alchemy

123 Barrack street

Anywhere that serves 3FE coffee makes me feel at home. Hipster, books and random wooden interior makes this place the perfect place to get inspired. Plus they allow dogs which always wins me over.

7. Market Lane

5-6 Oliver Plunkett Street

Not only does this place serve epic, award-winning food it also happily accommodates those of you looking to get a solid few hours work done during the day. The casual, buzzy layout means you'll fly through both your tasks and coffee.

6. Duke's Coffee Company

4 Carey's Lane

There aren't many little coffee places in Cork that offer the winning combination for working remotely but this place ticks all those boxes. They've a bright seating area upstairs which is perfect for hiding away and having meetings without being disturbed. Great coffee and cakes on tap too.

5. The Atrium, Clarion Hotel

Lapp's Quay, Cork

The Atrium space in the Clarion is the perfect way to get inspired. The huge bright space is without distractions and has super fast Wi-Fi. Its propably the most used place for business making it ideal for setting up camp when you've a day of meetings ahead of you. Its within walking distance to the city centre too and jackpot when you need to print documents last minute.

4. Woodford

19-20 Paul Street

Not typically a coffee shop, this pub is a favourite haunt for those who like to work remotely in Cork. Cosy surroundings mean you can spend hours here and move from a coffee to a pint if you like. Excellent Wi-Fi and friendly staff.

3. Soho

77 Grande Parade

Soho is a huge contemporary bar that covers 4 floors in the city centre. Ample Wi-Fi, great coffee and plenty of places to set up and get a shit tonne of work done. Loads of screens around if you want to catch up on the day's sport. As well as being a popular daytime meeting spot, Soho transforms into a bustling late night bar in the evenings.

2. Electric

41 S Mall, Cork City

If you're looking for good vibes, great food, decent Wi-Fi and possibly a cocktail then this place ticks all the boxes. Right in the centre of Cork and a hipster's paradise, Electric Cork lives up to its expectations.

1. The Bookshelf

78 South Mall, Cork

The perfect spot to head to if you want to work remotely for a few hours with great coffee and equally great cakes. You'd need to get in early to guarantee yourself a seat though cause this place is really popular.
